Destruction at Tomcat Rigging School 2009
February 25, 2009February 17th through February 22
Melissa and Ryan go to Midland Texas to learn about all things Rigging.
I could re-cap all of the wonderful things we learned, but us sitting in a classroom with our calculators isn’t nearly as exciting as our “day of destruction”.
Towards the end of our week in Midland, we got a reprieve from our tutorials and powerpoints and we were bussed over to Tomcat’s fabrication facility for some hands on time.
We had spent hours and hours learning about how to avoid disasters, how to make sure you are never anywhere near breaking point and now we were going to do just the opposite.
We placed the truss in different orientations underneath this hydraulic crusher. Depending on where the weight was placed on the truss, we got to see how little pressure it took to break it, or how surprisingly strong it was.
Here are some of the good photos of the aftermath. And hopefully, unless you travel to Midland Texas, this will be the only time you will see truss looking like this.
